Pulp magazines, pulp fiction or “the pulps” were inexpensive collections of fiction widely popular from the 1920s through the 1950s. More popular than the stories that were contained in the magazines was the cover art found on each book. Usually featuring half-dressed women in distress, monsters, aliens and heroes the covers of pulp fiction magazines became such an important part of their marketing that often the images would be created first and then an author would be asked to write a story based on the cover art.
