Design Every Day (or as often as possible)
Recently there was an article on Smashing Magazine titled “Design Something Every Day” that asks us to do just what the title says. This isn’t a new idea. People have been doing this for a while and Smashing Magazine gives a good list of those people in their article. What is new is doing it myself. So, starting in January there will be an attempt to create and post something new every day.
A few things about this project:
- Designing something everyday with my current schedule and work load is an awful lofty goal. What I can promise is that I’ll post something that I’ve designed at least every week but I will be trying for everyday.
- Sometimes I doodle and scribble. Sometimes I make a mess of typography. Sometimes I design really bad user interfaces and websites. If one of these or any variation of this is done for this project that’s exactly what I’ll post. I’m not looking for finished projects with this or even good design, it’s all a learning process.
- This is going to be more of a “create” something every day rather than a “design” something everyday. I’m a designer by day but I’m a creative and an artist at heart so I’ll probably post a mish-mash of everything that I do.
- More often than not, when I start out creating an art piece or even just designing something for myself I have no clue where I’m coming from or the ends that I’m trying to reach. I usually start from general abstract ideas. When I can, I’ll post a description, general thoughts or an explanation with my designs for this project. When I have no clue what I was thinking or doing that’s probably exactly what the explanation will be.
Now that the introduction and some vague ground rules have been laid out here is what I’ll be calling this series along with the designs from day one and day two.

What is it? A new logo? A new look for Good Dog Creative? Stay tuned…
Day 2
Just playing around with some brushes and textures. It’s a duel screen wallpaper and anyone is welcome to it but it’s only available in one size.
