Don’t Be A Website Pack Rat: Sell! Sell! Sell!
I’ve found that, as web professionals, it’s almost a requirement for us to collect domains and create pet projects so, what do we do when have these things that we can’t really use any longer but don’t want to just let the registrations expire? Make some quick cash, that’s what.
I have a few domain names that I’ve collected over the years. Some of my domains have sat collecting dust, waiting to be made into real websites while others became sites for personal projects. Some of those personal projects have fallen by the wayside and still others never really got off the ground to begin with so now I’m considering trying to unload them and make few bucks in the process.
I’ve decided to start researching sites that specialize in playing the middle man for people looking to sell or auction off domains and fully built sites. Here are some of the places I’ve found. If anyone has used any of these sites please leave a comment with your thoughts on the experience you had with them.
Sedo is the big daddy of domain marketplaces offering both buyers and sellers a range of services including domain appraisal, domain escrow and personal domain brokerage. Sedo also has a great informational resource section that is available to everyone. Pricing and commissions are very reasonable while your account and domain parking are free.
Flippa.com is a domain and website auction house. At this auction house you are given the ability to set a minimum price in which you want the bidding to start, a reserve price that is the minimum amount you are willing to sell your site or domain for and the option of having a “buy it now” price at which you are willing to end the auction immediately. There is a listing fee for sellers and a “success fee” that is split by the seller and buyer. Flippa.com also offers various listing upgrades for additional costs. Their pricing is listed on their site.
websitebroker.com has been around since 1997 and sells website and domains for fixed prices chosen by the seller. They offer buying and selling services for both developed websites and domain names. A standard listing for 90 days costs around $10 and they offer a premium listing for 90 days at $30 for sites and $15 for domains. Their premium listing places your listing in a second category named Premier Listing which is shown on their homepage. A premium listing will also move your listing to the top of it’s category with a bold styling. The upside? There is no commission to sell a site on Website Broker.
Website Acquire only charges $2 for listing your site, but it isn’t very easy to search. When someone wants to buy a site, they can not search the listings and are only given a keyword search. The site isn’t very pretty to look at either which, whether honest or not, causes some wariness.
Buysellwebsite.com specializes in established and start-up web sites. Both established websites and start up websites cost $59 for a 2-week listing, or $99 for a month long listing. Every established website listed is entered into the top of their database so it will appear on the front page but start up websites do not receive the front page perk.

A great way to help make your article promotion productive is by using auto responders. Rather than an inadequate call to inspect your sales letter, look into bribing your consumers with an immediate, zero cost gift for becoming a member of your list.
